Well, beauty is subjective… But you’re right, this website doesn’t conform to modern beauty standards 😔. There’s no auto-scrolling, no parallax, no elements that move as you scroll - horrific, I know.
There’s a simple reason for that - I don’t really like modern website aesthetics. They tend to lead to bloated, slow, and frustrating designs.
Loading Asana’s homepage for example transferred 9.53 MB over about 10 seconds, with the DOM loading at 1.59s and load finishing at 3.91s.
Loading my homepage however transferred 123.42 KB over 749 ms, with the DOM loading at 504 ms and load finishing at 585 ms. That’s a pretty big difference and makes for a much nicer experience.
I find that a website like this is easier to understand, and feels more homely, and that’s the kind of vibe I want.
We have computers that are orders of magnitudes more powerful than the ones that took us to the Moon, loading a webpage shouldn’t take more than a fraction of a second, and yet.
